Sober Herchcovitch show opens Rio fashion week

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Rio de Janeiro's winter 2012 fashion week kicked off on a sober note Tuesday, with a utilitarian collection in industrial-strength denims from star designer Alexandre Herchcovitch.

Internationally, Rio is almost synonymous with saturated hues and minuscule spandex-based separates, but Herchcovitch dared do drab with a collection that would have been at home on the more commercial catwalks of Milan or New York — where he also shows.

But Herchcovitch was the sole dark and serious note in an otherwise color-drenched day that included a sumptuous kimono collection from Patachou and rhinestone and silk flower-covered offerings at Acquastudio.

For his second line, the cheaper more youth focused Herchcovitch label, the Sao Paulo-based Herchcovitch looked to the proto-hipsters of 1980s-era New York, sending out models in shirtdresses and bustier catsuits in bleach-splattered raw denim. Cropped leather jackets and vests topped off the outfits, which were accessorized with '80-style sunglasses and wedges with translucent plastic heels.

The girls' hair was teased into fluffy clouds that resembled the nest of a particularly large and enterprising rodent.

Among the biggest names in Brazilian fashion, Herchcovitch shows his premium label in New York. Known for a wacky eclecticism that was utterly lacking from Tuesday's show, Herchcovitch has garnered considerable critical acclaim.

Most of the day's excitement came from lesser-known houses, like Acquastudio, another Sao Paulo-based brand, which sent out ladylike dresses in a pastel rainbow. Bouquets of eyepopping silk flowers that glinted with Swarovski crystals covered the 1950s-inspired dresses, with nipped waists and full skirts. Rhinestone-covered socks peeked over the lace-up booties.

Patachou designer Erika Frade looked east for a sophisticated, Japanese-influenced collection. The kimono was the star of the show, sent out in gold lame as a glimmering wrapdress, in crisp poplin as a boardroom-ready work shirt and in red leather for va-va-voom glamour.

At Alessa, little silk dresses and low-slung trousers came in muted oriental prints, some of them culled directly from the Turkish kilims that lined the catwalk. It was a solid effort from designer Alessa Migani, who skipped down the runway in a silk carpet-print caftan, taking deep bows as the audience hooted warmly.

Only Cantao elicited a more enthusiastic response. The brand delivered a snug collection of woolen winter wears, including maxi sweaters and shorts knit from chunky yarn.

Still, with Southern Hemisphere summer temperatures in the mid-80s outside, it was hard to imagine donning any of the snugly sweaters or the gauzy woolen leggings.

'Caged' Star Wes Reflects On Series Premiere

MTV's new docu-series "Caged" premiered Monday night, and after seeing it, the first reaction of castmember Wes had little to do with his performance in the cage. "Damn, I was fat and out of shape," the amateur mixed martial arts fighter told MTV News via Skype. "I guess because I hadn't trained and fought in so long [before] the first episode, and then me getting back into it I was just like, wow, I didn't really realize how big I was, and then the camera, it adds, like, 10 pounds."

"Caged" follows Wes and two fellow cage fighters, Daniel and Danger, as they try to better their lives in their small town of Minden, Louisiana. A revealing (and somewhat revolting) subplot in the premiere involved Wes trying to cut weight before a fight. He needed to shed several pounds in a short period of time. "We don't have a sauna to go to in Minden, and I had three or four hours to make weight. And if you don't make weight, you don't fight," Wes said. He decided to use the brutal Louisiana heat to his advantage. "I was like, the inside of my car's leather, it will be like a sauna in there. So we get our sauna suit and I get in there and I'm just like, 'Oh my God, I'm dying.' You do what you got to do, I guess," Wes said.

The episode's climax, fittingly, was the big night during which Wes, Danger and Daniel all had fights. Wes recalled that the time leading up to him stepping into the cage was filled with his usual pre-fight jitters. "Can you just imagine being somewhere, and then a guy comes running up at you and he's like, 'I'm about to fight you right now.' And you take that little split second that you're so scared, and then magnify it times a hundred and then stretch it out for about two weeks long," he said. "Because two weeks before a fight you're like, 'Oh, sh--, I've got to fight a guy in a cage. And he's going to try to kick me in the face, and he's going to try to hurt me.'"

During the final moments before the fight, the second-guessing comes. "You're just sitting there and you're waiting on them to call your name. You're just like, 'What am I doing here? I just want the electricity to go out, or some kind of natural disaster to happen so I don't have to fight,' " Wes said. "And then they start playing your walk out music and you're just like, 'OK, this is what I'm here for, this is why I do this. I love this.' And you go out there and it's such an adrenaline rush, you really can't explain it. It just takes over your body."

After Wes won his fight, he watched Daniel struggle in the cage. "Daniel, I've known him for a long time," Wes said. "He's unsociable and he looks like Justin Bieber, but he's a cool cat."

It was clear that Daniel was having trouble. "I'm stressed out watching him," Wes recalled. "And then he gets hit and I'm just like, 'Oh my God.' " Daniel was down, and all Wes could do was watch. "You can't do anything because in a cage fight it's only two people," he said. "You've just got to live with what happens."

"Caged" airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on MTV.

Muddy Waters son releasing new album

Muddy-Waters-son-releasing-new-album Email this story Printable version

Larry "Mud" Morganfield was born in 1954, the oldest son of blues legend Muddy Waters, but it wasn't until 2008 that he actually followed his blues legacy with his debut album. Morganfield has now signed with Severn Records to release the followup, Son of the Seventh Son, on March 20.

Recorded in Chicago and produced by Bob Corritore, Son of the Seventh Son features Mud Morganfield's earthy, soulful vocals backed by a cadre of blues all-stars, including Kenny Smith on drums, Rick Kreher and Billy Flynn on guitar, Barrelhouse Chuck on keyboards, E.G. McDaniel on bass, and Harmonica Hines and Bob Corritore on harp.

'I just couldn't have done this without those cats, man,' Morganfield told writer Terry Mullins in an interview published in Blues Blast Magazine. 'They brought something to the studio that will forever live in my heart. It brought out the best in me. It's a great CD, some of the best work I've done so far. It's got one great song after another on it.'

Son of the Seventh Son includes seven Mud Morganfield originals, as well several other new tunes and a couple songs associated with his famous dad, such as You Can't Lose What You Ain't Never Had. Producer Bob Corritore calls his sound 'a contemporary version of traditional Chicago blues.'

'There's two songs of pop's on there and with anything I do, I'm gonna add pop,' Morganfield said in the interview. 'But the rest of the disc is made up of several songs that I wrote, along with a song that Bob Corritore wrote and one my good friend Studebaker John wrote. But it's all got that Muddy style to it, because that's who I am. Without me even trying, I come off like the son of Muddy Waters and I'm proud that it's like that.'

Chicago-based Mud Morganfield is the eldest son of the blues icon and bears a striking vocal and physical resemblance to his illustrious father. He has toured all over the world spreading the gospel of blues just like his daddy did and will support the release of Son of the Seventh Son with tour dates both in the U.S. and internationally, as well.

Grammy producers are reportedly hopeful that Adele will perform at the ceremony next month.

The British star has been nominated for six of the prestigious music awards, including album of the year for her smash hit record 21.

Adele has been keeping a low profile in recent months after undergoing emergency surgery for a haemorrhaged vocal cord in November. She was advised to take a break from singing and forced to cancel several tour dates.

However, it has now been reported that Adele could show off her stunning vocals by opening this year's Grammy Awards.

"Adele will be at the Grammys in Los Angeles on February 12," a source close to the singer told RadarOnline.com. "She's thrilled to be nominated, but it's been a hard time for her because of the surgery. She has begun talking more, with her doctor's permission. Adele's best friend in recent weeks has been warm compresses around her neck to help the healing process of her vocal chords.

'Producers of the Grammys would love to have Adele perform, and open the show, but she isn't able to give them an answer yet. She won't be able to give them an answer until the beginning of February, and they completely understand."

People usually take anywhere between one and three months to recover from the throat operation.

It was recently reported that Adele has been eating less junk food in a bid to boost her all-around health.

She is believed to have lost 25lbs to ensure she looks her best for the Grammy Awards and to 'sex up' her image.

Lady Gaga wants two homes with lover

Lady Gaga and her boyfriend are planning to buy two homes together.

The star has been dating Taylor Kinney since July of last year, but only recently stepped out in public with him.

Although they have only just entered the limelight as a couple they are rumoured to be ready to buy property together.

There has been speculation Gaga was purchasing a £1.1 million property in Pennsylvania for them to live in, but their plans are apparently bigger than that.

'They've been looking for two places ' one near his parents in Pennsylvania and one in the Big Apple,' a source told British newspaper The Sun.

It's unknown how big they want their New York accommodation to be. Gaga hails from the city and has regularly spoken of her love for it. She still spends a lot of time at her mother and father's home there.

Gaga and Taylor have worked hard to keep their relationship low key after meeting on the set of the promo for her track Yoü and I. Rather than staying in lavish hotels, the 24-year-old singer has often opted to stay in the beach shack Taylor shares with three friends.

Watts told BBC 6 that it's more about the logistics that the will as far as the members of the group go. "Ronnie plays, I still play, Mick sings, he can do it anyway, I think Keith is doing some records. Anyway it would be great if we did, we are just getting to an age where it's getting a bit difficult to get it together and it's such a bloody performance getting us together."

He also addressed why the band has been together for half of a century. "I think no one wants to quit because the other one will say you quit."

A tour would be their first in five years, since 2007's Bigger Bang trek which set the North American Record with receipts of $162 million.

For the record, Watts is the elder Stone at 71. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are both 68 and Ronnie Wood is 64.

LA council tentatively OKs porn condom ordinance

LOS ANGELES (AP) — An ordinance that would require porn actors to wear condoms during film shoots was tentatively approved by the Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday.

The council voted 11-1 for the proposal. The ordinance still requires a second vote next week for final approval.

Under the ordinance, porn producers would have to provide and require the use of condoms on set in order to obtain permits to film in the second-largest U.S. city.

Approval of the ordinance would supersede a proposed ballot initiative by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. The group has long advocated for mandatory condom use in adult films and urged council members to approve the ordinance.

"This long struggle to move us to a place of making Los Angeles a safe place to make adult films has taken a huge leap forward today," said foundation President Michael Weinstein, referring to advocacy work and legal attempts to create a mandate for condoms in porn and to enforce it.

The Free Speech Coalition, the porn industry's trade association, issued a statement criticizing the vote and the incursion of government into sex films.

"Government regulation of filmmaking would likely undermine existing health and safety efforts and industry standards that are effective as well as take the government into dangerous new territory," said Diane Duke, coalition executive director.

Duke said the porn industry has a low rate of sexually transmitted disease and there has been no transmission of HIV in the industry in five years.

The most recent HIV scare in the industry came when a male performer initially tested HIV positive, but retesting revealed he was free of the disease in September 2011, according to Duke.

Prior to that, porn actor Derrick Burts was diagnosed HIV-positive in December 2010 after working in gay and straight porn for a few months. Burts said he contracted the disease through those performances.

Duke and others don't count Burts' case as an industry-caused illness, alleging he contracted HIV outside the workplace.

Burts denies those allegations and called the council vote Tuesday "a huge, huge step in the right direction."

The council also agreed to form a group comprised of law enforcement, state occupational safety regulators, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and other stakeholders to hammer out how to enforce the new rules.

The council also voted unanimously to drop a lawsuit filed by the city attorney against the foundation aimed at stopping its proposed ballot measure.

The group last month said it gathered enough signatures to put the issue on the June ballot.

The Free Speech Coalition opposes mandatory condom regulations but favors consistently testing adult film performers for sexually transmitted diseases.

KISS-and-Motley-Crue-to-join-forces? Email this story Printable version

It's only a rumor at this time but, according to the site bravewords.com, a source has reported that KISS and Motley Crue will tour together in the autumn.

If the report is true, it would most likely be a KISS headlining tour in support of their album Monster with Motley Crue in a support role.

KISS should have the recording of the Monster album in the can according to members of the group although no timeframe has been set for the release.

On the other hand, Motley Crue may be in a bit of an upheaval. They are playing a short residency in Las Vegas in February; however, lead Vince Neil has said that he might be leaving the group. "This is all about me thinking about the second half of my life, thinking about my future, and that future might not include Motley Crue after Vegas."

We will pass along any further developments on this rumor when they become available.

Dance Moms 'Not Very Grateful,' Abby Lee Miller Says

Abby Lee Miller is just as eager to see the second-season premiere of "Dance Moms" as the rest of us. Although she's the star of Lifetime's runaway reality hit about a tough-love dance instructor and the meddling moms that get in her way, she doesn't see the show ahead of time.

"I see [the episodes] when you see them," Miller told MTV News. "People are asking me questions about future episodes, and I'm just like, 'I don't remember what happened. Sorry!' "

But once the titular dance moms are brought up in conversation, Miller has no problem recalling her ongoing drama with the cast. (Buckle up, readers. She's got a lot to say about everyone!)

"They're just not very grateful," Miller whispered. "You would think that the mothers would see things a little clearer now, now that they're on a television show and now that they do have fans, that they [wouldn't] be a little more respectful of me. I just think that they don't want to recognize the fact [that] if it wasn't for Abby Lee Miller and the Abby Lee Dance Company and having their children enrolled in my studio that they would be on a show," Miller said.

A lot of the drama in season two — premiering Tuesday night (January 10) at 9 p.m. — stems from the inflated egos of the newly famous cast. "[Dance mom Kristi] went behind everyone's back and hired a publicist," Miller sighed. "Kristi has this bizarre twisted imagination that they would have just picked [daughter] Chloe up in any dance studio in the Pittsburgh area. How would that have happened? That's not the way that it came to be."

Still, even with the spotlight brighter than ever, the lady in charge insists that nobody "turns it on" for the camera. "I think why the show always works is there's that underlying original story or characters, if you will, that had these original problems before Lifetime, before [production company] Collins Avenue, before [producer/creator] John Corella and I ever put this together and he ran with it and made this all happen," Miller said. "Those things like grown adult mothers being jealous of [child dancer] Maddie — that's still there."

One of Abby Lee Miller's biggest pet peeves is the "favoritism" accusation thrown her way in regards to Maddie, the award-winning dancer often perched on top of Miller's achievement pyramid over classmates Chloe and Paige. "Bull!" Miller screamed. "[Maddie]'s paying for one-on-one lessons. At registration in August, guess who wasn't there [to sign up for one-on-one lessons]? I don't know if I'm allowed to say," Miller trailed off, hinting at future season-two plot-points.

"These moms, this is their first child that they've had involved in this. This is my 3,000th child I've had involved in this. So I've done this all before. I can take you back 30 years and give you two names just like Maddie and Chloe. Another five years? Another two kids. Another five years? Another two kids. There's always two kids in that studio that are vying for the top spot. There's all those other kids who are in the group [too]. Some of those [other] kids are on Broadway right now. It's not always the one who was really good and winning everything when they were little that ends up with a career. Bodies change, interests change, passion changes. You never know. I mean, look at Paige; she's stunning. She's a beautiful child. When she's 18, it's all going to come together. She's gonna fill out, she's still gonna be beautiful. The dancing's gonna click. You don't need to do the steps that Maddie's doing to be in a Broadway show or to be a Rockette."

Another hot topic is Holly's inability to see her daughter Nia perform at a dance competition due to a work commitment. It's a fight that kicks off season two and it still remains a contentious issue, long after the second season wrapped taping. "[Holly]'s a principal of a school. She's a hotshot. Leave early! Come on! She just got in trouble two days ago for me. Didn't show up again at a competition, and it was a Saturday. Now what? And her husband's a really good-looking, nice guy with a big job. Hire an assistant! Do whatever you have to do!"

But nobody gets Abby Lee Miller's blood boiling quite like Cathy Nesbitt-Stein, rival dance coach at Candy Apple's Dance Center in Ohio. Miller accused Cathy of stealing a bumblebee costume Miller leant to her daughter. "I think they're stealing a lot of things," Miller joked, referencing a tricked-out video-screen pyramid PowerPoint that fans will see Cathy use at Candy Apple's in the season-two premiere.

"I went to the [Apple store] in Pittsburgh and I said, 'I want this and I wanna throw [the girls' pictures onscreen] like "CSI." ' And then I told my producers at Collins Avenue, 'I need this! This is the way it has to be.' And then they stole that idea and gave it to [Cathy]. You can't trust anybody in this business," Miller said.

Watch Abby Lee Miller be "always right" and never get the respect she deserves when the drama-filled second season of "Dance Moms" premieres Tuesday night at 9 on Lifetime.

Shonda Rhimes Committed To 'Grey's Anatomy'; Talks What's Coming Up For Mer/Der, Teddy, Christina & More!

Shonda Rhimes wasn't talking about the elephant in the room - the upcoming end of contracts for "Grey's Anatomy" stars, including Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey - on Tuesday at the Television Critics Association Winter Session, where she was promoting her new show for ABC, "Scandal," but she confirmed her own commitment to the medical drama.

"I think that we're all interested in doing the show as long as the show's interesting to do," Shonda told a small group of reporters after the "Scandal" panel. "When I'm done having interesting ideas for the show, I will be done with the show, but that doesn't necessarily mean the show will be done."

PLAY IT NOW: How Would Patrick Dempsey Like His ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Run To End?

Among those ideas, as revealed on last week's "Grey's Anatomy," was giving Seattle Grace's power couple - Meredith and Derek (Mer/Der) - their adopted baby back.

"They're going to get to be parents and I think you're going to see a lot of joy from them," Shonda told AccessHollywood.com . "And I think it's a really good evolution for their characters."

VIEW THE PHOTOS: Primetime Hunks

But how long will their happiness last?

"I think it's going to last for a while," Shonda told reporters. "It's been a great evolution for their characters to see - it's been wonderful to see Meredith as a mother and what that is and we've been having a lot of fun with that. And Ellen's amazing with the twins who play baby Zola... She's amazing with those babies and has been turning in amazing performances all season and really been bringing it. It's been really fun to watch."

While happiness is there for Mer/Der, Kim Raver's character, Dr. Teddy Altman, is heading into a mourning period, following the death - on the operating table, under Dr. Christina Yang (Sandra Oh) - of her husband, Henry Burton, played by Scott Foley.

VIEW THE PHOTOS: ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Scenes & Stars

"I think it's about what happens when something like that happens to you and who's to blame and how she's gonna deal with that," Shonda told Access of Kim/Teddy's upcoming storyline.

Still, she would have liked to have kept Scott and his character on the show.

VIEW THE PHOTOS: Where The ‘Grey’s’ Boys Are

"I wanted her [character] to be happy and I would have loved for the opportunity to keep Scott Foley, but it wasn't in the cards for us, unfortunately. I'm dying to work with him again, because he's amazing. Literally, like, amazing. People were like weeping on set that he was going, but yeah, it's part of the plan for her character," Shonda told Access . "We have a story that we're gonna tell and we're excited about it."

As for Christina (Sandra) and Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKdd), they have more drama in store over Dr. Yang's abortion.

"It felt like It wasn't closed for Owen, it was closed for Christina, but it wasn't closed for Owen," she said.

There will be some happiness, however, for Chandra Wilson's Dr. Miranda Bailey.

"Bailey and Jason George (who plays Dr. Ben Warren) are having a romance and that's a really good thing. It's nice to see Bailey happy," she told Access.

Shonda also revealed that Debbie Allen is heading back to play Dr. Catherine Avery in the coming weeks, "because we love her."

Beyond character updates, Shonda said she's excited about the upcoming alternate reality episode of "Grey's" which will see Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) come back to Seattle Grace.

"I think I really like the alternate reality episode that's coming up because I think it's pretty amazing," Shonda told reporters.

"Scandal" premieres Thursday, April 5 at 10:00 PM EST/PST, after "Grey's."

Charlie Sheen reflects on the past year's lessons

(Note: strong language throughout)

NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) - "It got unwieldy the other night when my tweet master put my phone number on the Internet," Charlie Sheen says. "Wow. I got 498 texts in 31 minutes. And I got 220 phone calls."

The actor stands surrounded by reporters, taking questions at a Fox party on Sunday for the Television Critics Association.

"There's one text that was really mean and I called the guy," Sheen says. "Yeah, I did. It was really mean. He said he hoped I died of cancer and all this shit. I said 'Hey man, it's Charlie Sheen. Talk to me.' Click. Then I called him back three times. I was pissed at that guy. He was somewhere in like Delaware."

For all the press he's done, Charlie Sheen rarely talks to so many reporters at once. His wide-ranging session Sunday marks the beginning of his promotion for FX's upcoming "Anger Management", in which he will play a therapist -- also named Charlie -- whose life is messier than the lives of his patients.

Sheen talked about why his new show won't have "poo poo jokes" like "Two and a Half Men" did, his work in the upcoming Roman Coppola film "A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III," and Ashton Kutcher's personal life.

Here's an edited transcript of Sheen's remarks.

Reporter: What did you learn from the last year?

Sheen: It was a radical example of stick with what you know.

Q: Have you seen the new "Two and a Half Men"?

A: It's like a new show.

Q: Do you think it's funny?

A: I think parts of it are funny, yeah.

Q: Would you do anything differently with everything that happened with "Two and a Half Men"?

A: I would have been a little less vocal ... that's about it though.

Q: What's it like to lose $2 million an episode for "Two and a Half Men?"

A: I went from making $2 million a week to making $1,700 a week on Roman's film, and I was never happier. So it ain't about the money.

Q: Will 'Anger Management' have references to your personal life?

A: Stuff we can't avoid.

Q: What's it like going out now?

A: It's fine. It's just the paparazzi, they make it a little difficult.

Q: I talked to Jenny McCarthy and she told me that when she did "Two and a Half Men" this year the people who missed you the most were the crew. Why did the crew identify with you and miss you?

A: Just because I made them feel -- just something I've always believed in -- that their job is as important as mine. That I can't do my job without theirs, and vice versa. A great idea can come from anywhere -- the craft services guy -- it's still a great idea. But you have to be in a work climate that allows that. Plus I made their jobs easier, because when in doubt, over-prepare. I've always believed if you don't know the words you can't make choices. So I always knew the words.

Q: Did you hear from the crew while everything was going on?

A: Absolutely. They were all Team Charlie. It was pretty cool.

Q: We all think we know what happened over the last year and why you were doing whatever you were doing ... What was happening that you were acting that way?

A: It was a lot about what had been going on for all those years on the ("Two and a Half Men") set and it was also about the pressure cooking of 30 years in the business and finally wanting to say all the things that I didn't. And I said them all at once and it created a tsunami of bizarre proportions. But no, the reason that I pushed it is that I knew I was right. I knew I was absolutely right in my stand.

Q: What are we going to see from you on the new show that we didn't see on "Men"?

A: Well, there'll be no fart jokes and dick jokes and poo-poo jokes...That's when writers get lazy.

Q: Does the role feel therapeutic to you?

A: How couldn't it? ... We're planning some good shit.

Q: Given your bad boy image, do you think it's ironic that Ashton Kutcher has taken on kind of a bad boy image since joining "Two and a Half Men"?

A: Do you think it was intentional? Do you think it was a plan of his? I was impressed. I thought, hey man, make it colorful.

Q: Do you have any advice for him for weathering the storm?

A: Naw, that's personal stuff that he's got to deal with. I don't know the man enough to offer advice. I just wish him well and hope it all ends peacefully.

Q: Charlie, you're looking great. How are you feeling and are you relaxing?

A: I'm just spending a lot of time with my children. I've got five of them.

Q: How much are you sleeping? You've said you were at three hours a night.

A: I'm back up to like six or seven.

Q: What's your take on the news media over the last year?

A: It is what it was. I think that I started to figure out to work with them and not against them. There's too many of you guys. I can't fight you. I try to pick my spots wisely and just think a little longer before I speak.

Levitan surprised at acceptance of gay characters

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — One of the biggest surprises for the creator of "Modern Family" is how Cameron and Mitchell, the gay parents who are among the show's lead characters, are accepted by the audience.

Steven Levitan said Tuesday that it's not just America: The Emmy-winning comedy is shown around the world, including in Vatican City. He said it's unusual for him to hear any objections to Mitchell and Cameron, portrayed by actors Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet.

He said at a news conference that it's easy for people to object to gay parents in concept.

"When you make it personal and show the people have good hearts and are extremely committed, loving parents, it's hard not to love them," he said. "I'm pleasantly surprised with the world's reaction to that particular part of our modern family."

Levitan said he and his staff impose a lot of pressure on themselves to keep standards up, even though creative ups and downs are almost unavoidable for long-running TV series.

"We don't want to be accused of getting soft or resting on our laurels," he said. "That keeps us on our toes or awake at night."

Beyonce Knowles had a 'military like' get away from her New York hospital today.
The 30-year-old singer gave birth to baby Blue Ivy Carter on Saturday and has been recuperating at Lenox Hill Hospital over the past few days.
But it is reported that the Single Ladies singer left the facility around 1.30am Tuesday morning in a cavalcade of several blacked-out SUVs.
Beyonce was apparently accompanied by rapper husband Jay-Z and they made a speedy exit from the hospital's back loading dock.
An eyewitness told New York Daily News that the exit consisted of elaborate car choreography to ensure security and also to outwit waiting photographers.
'It was very precise, very military-like,' one witness said. 'Immediately, security personnel began leaving the hospital.'
First pictures of Blue Ivy are speculated to fetch over $1 million.
The music couple released a statement yesterday saying that they were in 'heaven' following the birth of their first child.
'She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7lbs and it was the best experience of both of our lives. We are thankful to everyone for all of your prayers, well wishes, loves and support,' the message read.

'Breaking Dawn - Part 2' Has Us Pumped For Fresh Blood

Looking ahead to November, when we finally get to see the end of the "Twilight" franchise in "Breaking Dawn - Part 2," there are many things to get excited about. For starters, Bella is now a vampire, Renesmee is growing up and the Volturi are back.

But what I am most looking forward to are all the fresh vampires. There are so many new characters, not to mention the fun involved in the adventurous search for allies, getting the group together, bonding over things like eating habits and fighting against the Volturi.

Therefore, in the spirit of MTV Movies' Ones to Watch in 2012, this "Twilight" Tuesday is dedicated to the ones to watch in "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" — which if you didn't already know, is also a big part of our MTV Movie Brawl 2012.

Before I get to my favorite new additions, "Twilight" vampire expert and star Peter Facinelli had these kind words to say about a few of his new castmates when MTV News caught up with him: "There's Maggie Grace; she's fantastic. Christian Camargo is fantastic and Juilliard-trained. I always wish I went to Juilliard, so when I meet people from Juilliard, I'm always jealous," he said. "Mia Maestro — there's so many talented people that were tapped. It's a much larger cast."

Clearly, Facinelli has a thing for the Denali coven, which we got a glimpse of in "Part 1" during Bella and Edward's wedding. The Denali clan is another group of vegetarian vamps consisting of Irina (Grace), former Volturi Eleazar (Camargo) and his multilingual mate Carmen (Maestro).

The Denalis are, indeed, a nice bunch. My personal favorite new vampire, however, is Garrett, the American nomad played by charming and adorable actor Lee Pace ("Pushing Daisies," "The Fall"). I remember liking him from the moment Stephenie Meyer introduced him, due to the 6-foot-2 factor, his curiosity and his adventurous nature. His character has a nice arc, which I'll avoid spoiling fully here, and Pace is the absolute perfect actor to play him.

Fellow fan and creator of the Kristen Stewart Hot Bodyguard Facebook page Sarah M. also brought up JD Pardo, who plays the other vamp/human hybrid Nahuel. "He was super nice at the BD1 premiere & ain't too hard on the eyes either!" she tweeted.

What do you think, "Twilight" fans? Who are other ones to watch in "Breaking Dawn - Part 2"? Let us know in the comments or tweet me @karawarner!

BBC Radio Two DJ Janice Long returns to Liverpool to host the launch party of Man Get Out's latest single 'Berlin' at Mojo on Saturday 28 January 2012. The event is a celebration of the much anticipated latest single from the band, which is released on Keep Out Records at midnight on the 28th.

The story of how Janice Long encountered Man Get Out is a veritable fairy tale. They were performing at a low key underground venue in Hoxton, London and unbeknown to them Janice was an impressed onlooker. Soon after the gig, the band switched on the radio in their van to hear the track 'Geronimo' being blasted down the airwaves. It was only the start of things to come as they received rave reviews from listeners, and were subsequently invited to the BBC studios for a live session on Radio 2 with the Bootle born DJ.

Ever since presenting a show on BBC Radio Merseyside, Janice has been an aficionado of new Liverpool music. In recent years she has championed The Wombats and The Zutons to mention just two, and the love affair continues with new band Man Get Out.

2011 saw Man Get Out hit the ground running on the Liverpool music scene with their debut EP 'This is What Happens When You Whisper Through A Megaphone'. The launch of 'Berlin' in 2012 will undoubtedly see the bands momentum continue.

Lloyd, Rob, Joe, Chris and Lars who together form Man Get Out recorded the track in Studio 1 in Parr St Studios. Produced by the up-and-coming Tony Draper and mixed by Al Groves of Sandhills Studios - the track is an absolute delight.

'Berlin' is available for purchase on all major online retailers from midnight on the 28 January 2012. There will also be a limited physical release on the same day. We've had a sneak preview of the single and it's no wonder the boys are excited about this launch party.

To see Man Get Out + special guests Guardians and The Thespians @ Mojo Liverpool and for your opportunity to hear Janice talk about the Liverpool music scene both past and present advance tickets can be bought HERE for just £5 in advance (or £7 OTD). Katy-Perry-pulls-out-of-post-split-appearance Email this story Printable version

Katy Perry has pulled out of what would have been her first public appearance since splitting from husband Russell Brand.

The 27-year-old singer took to her Twitter page to tell fans that she will not be attending an award ceremony this Wednesday as she had been scheduled to.

Russell filed for divorce from the Firework singer less than two weeks ago after just 14 months of marriage.

'Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People's Choice Awards,' Katy wrote on the social networking site but did not elaborate on a reason.

'I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed (sic)!'

Katy is nominated for six awards which is more than anyone else. She is up for Favourite Female Artist and Favourite Song for the track E.T. featuring Kanye West.

It was reported last week that Russell had been uninvited from the show to prevent them bumping into each other.

Katy spoke out over the weekend for the first time since her divorce was announced, saying her heart is 'happy again.'

"I am so grateful for all the love and support I've had from people around the world," she wrote on Saturday. "You guys have made my heart happy again."

Katy went on to urge her fans to ignore speculation surrounding the breakdown of her marriage.

"Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me," she tweeted. "Not a blog, magazine, 'close sources' or my family (sic)."

Justin Bieber 'Rap-Singing' On New Lil Twist Collabo

It's been a long time coming for Lil Twist. The Young Money rap rookie was supposed to see his debut album Don't Get It Twisted drop in 2011, but after a few false starts, the Dallas MC is looking forward to a March 20 release.

Already, he has dropped a ton of singles and high-powered collaborations with Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes and 2 Chainz. Next up, Justin Bieber.

"We're getting ready to drop that record 'Wherever You Are.' Y'all will have that real soon," Lil Twist told MTV News of the high-powered collaboration. "It's a fun record. Justin killed it. He's, like, rap-singing on it; another different sound for Justin."

Twist, who built his fanbase thanks to pop-rap joints like "Little Secret" with Bow Wow and "Love Affair," has been developing a harder edge lately. His recently released video for the Busta Rhymes-assisted "Turnt Up" focuses more on the 18-year old's rap bars rather than his penchant for catchy hooks. His Golden Child mixtape, which he dropped in December, also shows a similar growth. But with "Wherever You Are," Twist just promises a good time.

"It's gonna be great. It's a cool summer record," Twist told MTV News last August. "It's a party song. Straight for the sun. It's a Miami record."

While the record has been in the works for some time, Twist is almost ready to let to go. "Just me and Justin, people been waiting on that," he said of his bond with the Biebs. "That's my brother right there. It's just been a long time coming. Now that we been had the record done, it's time to put it out."

Are you anticipating Lil Twist's "Wherever You Are," featuring Justin Bieber? Tell us in the comments!

Elton John to pen personal story about AIDS

LONDON (Reuters) - Elton John will write a personal account of his life during the AIDS epidemic, including his friendship with Queen frontman Freddie Mercury who died of an AIDS-related illness in 1991 aged 45.

The "Rocket Man" musician founded the Elton John AIDS Foundation around 20 years ago to raise funds to help fight the disease, and proceeds from "LOVE IS THE CURE: Ending the Global AIDS Epidemic" will go to the charity.

In a statement released on Monday, publishers Hodder & Stoughton promised a "very personal story of ... Elton's life during the AIDS epidemic, including his agony at seeing friend after friend perish needlessly."

Among the individuals it describes are Mercury and Ryan White, an American boy who became a "poster child" for HIV/AIDS after he was banned by a school because of his condition.

According to reports at the time, John was with White when he died in a U.S. hospital in 1990 aged 18.

"This is a disease that must be cured not by a miraculous vaccine, but by changing hearts and minds, and through a collective effort to break down social barriers and to build bridges of compassion," John said.

"Why are we not doing more? This is a question I have thought deeply about, and wish to answer -- and to help change -- by writing this book."

An estimated 34 million people worldwide had the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that causes AIDS in 2010, up 17 percent on 2001 when 28.6 million were living with HIV.

According to the Hodder statement, HIV/AIDS has claimed 60 million lives.

Hodder & Stoughton acquired LOVE IS THE CURE with U.S. sister company Little, Brown and Company.

It is due to be published in July 2012 to coincide with the 2012 XIX International AIDS Conference to be held in Washington DC.

Dan Savage Talks 'Vile Attack' On Rick Santorum

In 2003, when columnist Dan Savage decided to take on then-U.S. Senator Rick Santorum for equating consensual, same-sex relationships to polygamy, incest and adultery (among other things), he never thought he'd still be talking about the matter more than eight years later ... mostly because, well, he never thought Santorum would consider running for president.

Of course, a lot can happen in eight years. Savage launched his campaign to "attach [Santorum's] name to a sex act that would make his big, white teeth fall out of his big, empty head," started a website that displayed the definition of the sex act in question (chosen from more than 3,000 reader-submitted suggestions) and watched with disbelief as that website became a prominent result for Santorum's name on most search engines. And Santorum, well, not only did he decide to make a run for the White House, but he finished a surprising second in the Iowa caucus, establishing himself as a legitimate front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination.

And so now, in 2012, with the New Hampshire primary upon us, here is Savage, still talking about his website, the Google problem it's caused the Santorum campaign and how, despite many (many) protests from the right, he has no intention of ever taking it down.

"I was never taking Santorum seriously. I'm surprised that he ran, I'm surprised that he did as well in Iowa as he did, but since Iowa, his poll numbers have been dropping," Savage told MTV News. "One of the funny things about the Spreading Santorum website is that it was dormant forever. There was a blog there we kept until about 2006 ... and then we stopped paying any attention to it. And yet it still sat at the top of the Google search results, even though we hadn't updated it for five years. And then he runs for president [and] it just explodes in his face.

"I can take the site down tomorrow, and it's not going to make any difference," he continued. "The new definition is out there, people use it in its proper context with the new meaning, and the damage is done."

Of course, some consider his site to be nothing more than a "vile attack" on Santorum and have called for him to remove it from the Internet to spare the candidate's family from various indignities. Savage, not surprisingly, isn't budging. In fact, the way he sees it, his site represents nothing more than him fighting back.

"It is a vile attack — I completely embrace that. So is comparing my 17-year marriage ... to raping dogs. That's pretty vile. That's pretty bigoted," he said. "It was really fighting fire with fire. When somebody injects vileness and bigotry into the public discourse, I believe they've invited some vileness and bigotry thrown back at them.

"Rick Santorum is a bully; the GOP is full of bullies who were basically able to punch people in the face and never get punched back. And gay people these days, we're not Rick Santorum's punching bag, and we will punch back," he continued. "And you've seen that on the campaign trail, with people confronting Santorum and Perry and Cain and Bachmann and everyone else who's trying to win votes by beating up gay people. We are not going to take it anymore."

And to that end, though he'll laugh his way through questions about the site (though he wants it to be known that he doesn't consider the action to be a "Google Bomb" — as some have coined it — since he's "not tech-savvy enough to do a Google Bomb ... I've literally reached the stage of life where when I have to turn on the TV, I have to get my kid to do it"), he'd rather discuss the resistance most GOP candidates have been receiving for their stances against marriage equality and the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell. Because, to him, not only do they represent the beginning of a generational shift in this country, but perhaps even the end of the GOP as we know it.

"Well, we've been seeing this throughout the campaign, where Bachmann and Romney and Perry and Santorum, they've all been challenged not by activists or gay organizations, but by individual voters. ... Increasingly LGBT people are empowered, not ashamed," he said. "They're attacking us, and we're confronting them. We're holding them accountable and calling them on their lies and their 'pious baloney,' to borrow Newt Gingrich's phrase. America is waking up to the fact that we're not bogeymen, and we're not coming to do any harm, and that we're your daughters and sons and neighbors, sometimes your parents, your co-workers, friends, colleagues. The Republican party, in this desperate [nod] to its dying evangelical base, is just ramping up the homophobia, and they're doing themselves real long-term damage.

"What's interesting is that, you look at who's been doing the most hate speech: Bachmann? She's out. Herman Cain? He's out. Perry? He's all but out. Santorum? He's running fourth, he's trailing even in conservative South Carolina," Savage continued.

"It's not winning them the election anymore. It's not 1992; Pat Buchanan can't get up and give a 'gay rights never, family values forever' speech at the Republican National Convention anymore. Times have changed."

I'll play until mid-50s, says Laura Davies

LONDON (Reuters) - Laura Davies turns 50 next year but the former world number one has no plans to hang up her spikes and believes she is capable of mixing it with golf's elite for several more seasons.

"I can really see myself going on into my mid-50s especially on the Ladies European Tour," the 48-year-old Briton told Reuters in an interview Monday. "I think I've got another four or five good years left in America as well.

"I just love competing, love mixing with the youngsters and spending time with them. My whole life has been competitive sport and I don't want to turn my back on it yet.

"I still think I am good enough. I had five wins in 2010 so clearly I'm good enough."

Davies, widely regarded as England's finest female golfer, has accumulated 77 victories around the world including 20 on the LPGA Tour.

She has picked up at least one trophy every season as a pro, except for 2005, and the enthusiasm she has for the game is as infectious as ever.

"When you wake up in the morning and you're no longer genuinely excited and nervous about the day ahead on the course, on the range or the practice green, that's the day you want to hang up your spikes," Davies said.

"It happens to everyone some day but so far it hasn't happened to me. Being as stubborn and as competitive as I am, I can't see it happening for a good four or five years or maybe more," the four-times major winner added.

"I wake up every day nervous and looking forward to it all."

WATSON INSPIRATION

Davies needs one more major victory, or two regular LPGA Tour triumphs, to enter the World Golf Hall of Fame and is using American great Tom Watson's exploits at the 2009 British Open as inspiration.

"He was 59 when he nearly won the Open," she explained. "I'm not saying I'm any Tom Watson but I've won a lot of tournaments over the years.

"Golf is a unique sport, you can play when you're 10 and when you're 80. We are very lucky as pros that we can play so long."

Davies is the only player to have featured in the Solheim Cup -- the women's equivalent of the Ryder Cup -- in each of the 12 editions of the biennial team event.

The Englishwoman was a member of Europe's triumphant side last season but it proved a rare high point in a generally disappointing personal campaign.

"I won a small tournament in Perth at the start of the year and I played well generally but my short game wasn't up to scratch," said Davies, who has a nine-hole course at her home on the outskirts of London.

"I didn't putt very well overall although I putted really well at the Solheim Cup. I don't normally practise much but I've been going to the local driving range recently and doing a bit of putting at the house.

"I just hope I can make enough putts this year to be competitive."

World number one Yani Tseng certainly made her share of putts in 2011, winning the LPGA Championship and British Open to take her haul of major victories to five, and Davies said the 22-year-old Taiwanese was on the road to greatness.

"I put Lorena Ochoa and Annika Sorenstam at the very top of our tree of modern-day players, with Karrie Webb, Beth Daniel and possibly myself on the next level," said Davies.

"Yani is in between those two levels at the moment. She's surpassing the great players and coming up to the elite two.

"I only see more success for her."

Adrianne Palicki Is Ready For A 'Badass' 2012

If 2012 teaches us anything about Adrianne Palicki, it may be that she knows her way around a machine gun.

The former "Friday Night Lights" star finds herself pulling the trigger in two high-profile action movies this year, "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" and "Red Dawn." Starring alongside big names like Bruce Willis, Dwayne Johnson, Chris Hemsworth and fellow Ones to Watch in 2012 honoree Josh Hutcherson in a single year definitely has our attention, but Palicki kicks ass in her own right.

We spoke with Palicki about her big 2012 and the difficulties of finding a date — knowing what she does about hand-to-hand combat.

MTV: First off, I have to congratulate you on being included in MTV's Ones to Watch 2012.

Adrianne Palicki: Thank you very much. It's very cool. I'm very flattered.

MTV: You have such a huge year coming up.

Palicki: Yeah, they keep telling me that. [Laughs.] It's surreal. Part of it is, "Red Dawn" I shot three years ago, so that feels so foreign to know that's actually going to come out this year. "G.I. Joe," we literally got off the plane from New Orleans and the trailer was out. I've never experienced anything like that. I feel like I'm still working right now. When we were shooting, it was less than a year until it came out. We knew that. It was just shocking.

MTV: The fan response to the "G.I. Joe" trailer seemed overwhelmingly positive.

Palicki: It was a pleasant surprise, because this is a reboot. It's scary going into the shoes that have already been worn. We wanted to do something really unique and special. With such an amazing group of talented actors, you don't want it to fall flat. How many people reached out, it's unbelievable to hear the comments that they're so excited, that the trailer is better than the first movie was. Just really cool reactions that you're going, "OK, hopefully we don't let you down." I really don't think we will. I think it's going to be a really fun ride for everybody.

MTV: It had to be a fun movie to shoot, right?

Palicki: Oh my God, it was a blast. Jon Chu, he's this genius. The thing that's so special about him is that he might be the biggest G.I. Joe fan on the planet, so that really came in our favor. He's young and interesting and full of ambition. We really did things that were super exciting and super scary, and I really feel everything's going to come out really, really well.

MTV: What was the scariest thing you had to do on set?

Palicki: We did have to scale a wall, but after seeing "Mission: Impossible 4," I'm like, "Well, I guess it wasn't that scary." An 18-foot wall compared to a skyscraper. The fun thing is that we get to do a lot of our own stunts.

MTV: Were you a fan of "G.I. Joe" when you were growing up?

Palicki: Oh yeah, definitely. I have a big brother, so anything he liked, I liked. He was super big into comic books, so I was super big into comic books. He was super big into G.I. Joe, and I wanted to be Jinx so badly. I don't know just if it was that she was wearing a red costume or what, but I wanted to be a ninja.

MTV: Were you disappointed to be Lady Jaye then?

Palicki: Lady Jaye's a badass. I couldn't really be disappointed with Lady Jaye. She's the one chick in the boys club. She can hold her own. She doesn't get the staff, but she is a weapons specialist. She has that going for her.

MTV: What was it like working with two huge action stars, Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis?

Palicki: Dwayne is like a teddy bear. I know his fans probably don't want to hear that. He might be one of the nicest people on the planet, genuinely. Very caring and very giving. Bruce is a kick in the pants. We get along really well, but he definitely came in during the middle of shooting for a week, added some flavor and left. But he was really fun to work with. I really enjoyed him.

MTV: How comfortable are you with a machine gun now?

Palicki: Between "Red Dawn," "Wonder Woman" and now "G.I. Joe," I feel like I could actually go and really harm some people with my hands. I feel like a Navy SEAL. It's been fun. I mean, I get paid to do this sh--. I get paid to shoot an AK-47 or a .50 cal or punch some dudes in the face or groin or whatever. It's a really fun job.

MTV: What's it like having "Red Dawn" come out after all this time?

Palicki: It's weird, because I'm so very removed from it. It was such a great experience, and I enjoyed it so much. Honestly, there's been some disappointment for me because it's going to be released and then it's not. It's going to be released and then it's not. I'm relieved. I'm really excited it's coming out, and I'm excited to see it myself. I haven't seen it in a year, and I'm sure it's changed quite a bit.

MTV: Back then Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson weren't exactly the huge stars they are today.

Palicki: Oh, Josh Hutcherson. I love him so much. It's crazy. We were babies. It's going to be so funny to see myself in "G.I. Joe" before playing an 18-year-old in "Red Dawn." It's just insane. We're all just babies. Chris was training to go shoot "Thor" when we were shooting that movie. It's crazy. It was so long ago.

MTV: How does it feel having these two action movies coming out in same year?

Palicki: It's very strange, and it's like, "OK, I guess I'll be an action star. Why not?" I will never have a date again, but it's cool, whatever. Men are going to be afraid of me. It's really special, and I'm excited. It's going to be a very busy year for me.

MTV: One of your fellow Ones to Watch is ...

Palicki: Taylor Kitsch. I know that guy! He's awesome. I miss him. He's the nicest guy. He's Canadian, I mean, need I say more? He also has the most ridiculous, disgusting sense of humor than anyone I've met. He's so raunchy, and when it comes out of his mouth, because he's Canadian and because he's so nice, it comes out of nowhere. It just makes it that much funnier.

MTV: Who's going to have the bigger year?

Palicki: Oh God, I can't. I think Taylor's going to have the bigger year. I'm not going to lie. He has a lot coming out this year and all different kinds of movies. I'm really proud of him. He deserves it. He's worked really hard. I'm excited to see where he goes with his career. The thing is, he's not just a pretty face. I mean, he has a very pretty face, by the way, but that's not all he has.

What are you waiting for? Your must-see movie needs your support. It's time to show character, poise and heart. Vote for your picks now at MTV Movie Brawl 2012!

Queen Latifah: I admire Parton

Queen-Latifah:-I-admire-Parton Email this story Printable version

Queen Latifah says Dolly Parton is '[her] hero'.

Latifah stars alongside the country music legend in new movie Joyful Noise, and has discussed her admiration for the blonde bombshell.

A musician herself, the 41-year-old joked that she was impressed by the singer's grace in her youth ' not least because they are both very curvaceous.

'She is my hero in a lot of ways. She really inspired me growing up because we are both very, ahem, well endowed [in the chest area]. It was just the way she carried herself, with poise and laughter and humor and irreverence and extreme talent,' she told ET Online.

Despite playing opposing characters in Joyful Noise who argue over how to win a national choir competition, the two women got on famously on the set of the movie.

Recalling the first time she met her idol, Latifah described how overawed she felt in Dolly's presence.

'She had this big old smile and this bad outfit. I was like, 'That is Dolly Parton!' Just like today, but there were more stones, there was more beading ' there was more!' she exclaimed.

'I called everyone and said, 'Guess who I just met'.'

'Star Trek 2': Alice Eve Talks Benedict Cumberbatch, Fan Expectations

We have a long wait ahead of us before J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" sequel hits theaters, but in recent weeks, the agony of the film's 2013 release has been made less so with the news that Benedict Cumberbatch has joined the film as its chief villain.

Although Cumberbatch is relatively new to audiences, via "Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy" and "War Horse" this year, he's a well-known actor in the U.K. and already has legions of fans. One of those fans is "Trek" co-star Alice Eve, who worked with Cumberbatch a few years back in the well-received British comedy "Starter for 10."

MTV News recently caught up with Eve, one of our Ones to Watch in 2012, and asked her thoughts on reuniting with Cumberbatch for "Trek 2."

"I'm very excited to work with him again. He's so very funny, Ben," she said. "I don't know if you remember his character in 'Starter for 10,' but he was so funny. Like King of the Geeks, but he did it so well, and I found a lot of that hard to get through because he was so funny. I like him very much."

Eve went on to say that she's very much looking forward to getting to work on "Trek 2," particularly because of the camaraderie among the cast.

"It's similar to 'Starter for 10,' from my point of view, in that there is a group of young actors who have a team spirit, which is always so revivifying to be a part of," she said. "When there's a group of people who you can spend time with and work with and get to know, a real good experience, it's kind of like going back to university or something, when everyone has got the same objective. There's a lot of energy, and it's a nice thing to be a part of that group. That's the thing that excites me most about it. Obviously, there is a huge legacy there with 'Star Trek' and the fanatics, so hopefully they'll be satisfied."

The "Raven" and "Men in Black 3" star didn't reveal any details about her character, only agreeing with us when we mentioned the fact that director J.J. Abrams likes to feature strong women in his films. Eve said she feels fortunate to be a part of the film.

"I feel incredibly lucky. I would say it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It's not once-in-a-lifetime, but it is rare. It's one of life's great pleasures to enjoy the group you work with, because we all know what it's like when you don't."

Bob Dylan branded 'A cheeky bastard' by Melbourne singer/songwriter

Bob-Dylan-branded-A-cheeky-bastard-by-Melbourne-singer/songwriter Email this story Printable version

Melbourne singer/songwriter Henry Wagons has called Bob Dylan 'a cheeky bastard'.

Wagons was quoted today in americansongwriter.com in an article featuring artists quoting their thoughts about music legend bob Dylan.

Henry recalled Bob's recent visit to play at Bluesfest in Byron Bay. It was the first time Henry had ever seen Bob. 'I saw him play for the first time just recently at a big festival in Byron Bay, Australia called Bluesfest,' he said. 'It coincided with me buying my first ever chili-infused coffee from a Moroccan food tent at the festival. They were the perfect match. Both Bob and the coffee were kinda spicy and bitter, but in the best possible way. He turned off all the screens so no one could see him and he played all of his songs quite differently to what many were expecting. I thought it was a proud and bold artistic statement and I loved every minute. He's a cheeky bastard'.

The article also features quotes from Pegi Young, Ben Kweller and Dave Stewart.

Justin Bieber: I dont need to go to church

Justin-Bieber:-I-dont-need-to-go-to-church Email this story Printable version

Justin Bieber thinks many religious people are 'lost'.

The Canadian singer has been outspoken about his Christian beliefs throughout his career and recently got a large portrait of Jesus Christ etched on his calf.

The 17-year-old star insists he isn't as religious as many might think though and believes some practitioners take worship too far.

'A lot of people who are religious, I think they get lost. They go to church just to go to church,' he told V magazine.

'I'm not trying to disrespect them... but for me, I focus more on praying and talking to Him. I don't have to go to church.'

In a wide-ranging interview, Justin went on to compare himself to controversial boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. The athlete is viewed as the best boxer in the world by some and remains undefeated despite fighting 42 bouts. Justin has drawn parallels with his own career, especially as some fans are now waiting for Floyd to lose.

'Now that I'm on top, everyone wants to bring me down. Everyone's trying to tug at me and take my spot. Like Floyd Mayweather, he's the best boxer in the world. Now he is a champion. Every time he goes to a fight now, people are like, 'He's going to lose this time,'' Justin mused.

Floyd's personal life has been marred in controversy, with the boxer currently awaiting a 90 day stint in prison following a domestic violence case.

Dolly Parton anxious to meet Latifah

Advertisements

Dolly-Parton-anxious-to-meet-Latifah Email this story Printable version

Dolly Parton felt like she was going on a date before meeting Queen Latifah because she was so nervous.

The country music legend stars alongside Latifah in the new movie Joyful Noise. Parton plays larger-than-life G.G. Sparrow who butts heads with Latifah's character over how to win a national choir competition.

Although they play enemies in the film, the pair got along famously in real life.

'We talked on the phone about two or three times before we actually met,' Parton told New York Daily News. 'Then, when we finally met, all day long I was putting on different outfits and combing my hair out. I couldn't wait to see her!

'I was so nervous, it was almost like we were going on a date or something.'

Latifah is equally as gushing about working with the 65-year-old star.

'I still sometimes have to stop and pinch myself and say, 'Oh my gosh, that's Dolly Parton!'' she revealed.

Parton and Latifah have both enjoyed music careers as well as appearing in movies.

Latifah still loves rapping and felt inspired to appear in Joyful Noise because of her passion for music.

'When I'm acting, I can just throw on a record, put a song on my iPod and it takes me [to where the character should be],' Latifah explained. 'I don't have to go into, 'Who died in my family,' or 'Will I ever have children?' I can just go with the chords alone and I'm there.'

Although Parton likes testing out her acting skills, her priority will always be making records and performing live. She would rather concentrate on music because films take so long to make.

'I prefer my music,' she smiled. 'I'm more of a one-nighter person than a squat-down-for-three-months kind of gal. But [making a film], you have to kind of brace yourself for that.'

New Hampshire Primary: Mitt Romney Wins Easily

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire — What a difference a week makes.

Many voters, journalists and campaign workers were up into the wee hours of the morning seven days ago when the Iowa caucus went down to the wire. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney won that contest by just eight votes, but in New Hampshire on Tuesday (January 10), the margin was much wider, as the longtime GOP front-runner became the first non-incumbent Republican to ever sweep the first two primaries of the election season with 36 percent of the vote when polls closed.

Thanks to a population that includes 40 percent of voters who identify as independents, it was another strong finish for Libertarian Congressman Ron Paul. With his by-now-ubiquitous cadre of young supporters spreading the word alongside unique ads on everything from digital billboards to green laser beams spelling out his name on the side of downtown Manchester buildings, Paul built on his third-place finish in Iowa, coming in second.

After barely registering in Iowa, former Utah governor and Obama administration ambassador to China Jon Huntsman put all his chips on the Granite State over the past few months. The motorcycle-riding, piano-pounding ex-high school rocker appeared at more than 170 events in New Hampshire while his rivals focused on Iowa. And while his poll numbers slowly crept up from single digits as Election Day neared, when polls closed Tuesday, Huntsman finished in third place.

Rick Santorum might have come in a close second in the Iowa caucus, but in New Hampshire, he shared last place with Newt Gingrich, nabbing around 10 percent of the vote each. Up next is January 17's South Carolina primary, where Romney faces a much harder contest with Santorum and Gingrich.

MTV is on the scene in New Hampshire! Check back here around the clock for up-to-the-minute coverage on the primary caucuses, and stick with PowerOf12.org throughout the presidential election season.

Bryan Ferry has tied the knot with girlfriend Amanda Sheppard.
The 66-year-old Roxy Music star said 'I do' to the PR executive who at 29, is 37 years his junior.
The pair got married at the Amanyara luxury beach resort on the Turks and Caicos Islands last week, the Daily Mail is reporting.
Bryan's new bride is his second wife following his 21-year marriage to Lucy Helmore with whom he has four children.
The rocker also famously dated American model Jerry Hall for two years before she ended the relationship to be with Rolling Stone frontman Mick Jagger.
Bryan recently spoke about how lucky he felt for being with a much younger woman.
'The interesting thing is. you never really meet people your own age who aren't married,' he told Live magazine.
'I'm very fortunate that I work in music, where you're in touch with different age groups, either the audience or people you work with. It does help. Obviously I'm not ageist.'
The couple started dating in 2009 and a few months later Amanda quit her public relations job and moved into the singer's home.

Quick quips: Van Halen, Kool & the Gang, Aerosmith, Metallica, Ronnie James Dio, Gregg Allman, Ted Nugent, 100 Club

Quick-quips:-Van-Halen,-Kool-and-the-Gang,-Aerosmith,-Metallica,-Ronnie-James-Dio,-Gregg-Allman,-Ted-Nugent,-100-Club Email this story Printable version

Van Halen has made an interesting choice to open some of their shows on the upcoming tour, 70's/80's funkmasters Kool and the Gang. Tickets for most of the stops announced go on sale on Saturday, January 14.

Steven Tyler talked about the upcoming Aerosmith album while being interviewed at the TCA panel for American Idol. "All of it's been written but I've got to lay lyrics on it and I haven't had a lot of time. What I've listened to so far knocked me out. I know a good song and I know what gets played on the radio. I'm not that pretentious to say we've got hits, but we've got something and that's all that matters."
As far as the sound, "It's Aerosmith, how do you hide from my big mouth?"

Kirk Hammett was also talking about Metallica's upcoming album. He told Rolling Stone "If Death Magnetic was a logical successor to .And Justice For All, the next album will be a heavier Black Album. We're not going to the depths of complexity that we did for Death Magnetic. The stuff we're coming up with is more groove-oriented, a heavier version of what we were doing in the early 90s.

A long list of rock and metal greats are getting on board a tribute album for the late Ronnie James Dio. Signed up so far are Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Lemmy Kilmister (Motorhead), Ian Gillan (Deep Purple), Alice Cooper, Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), Sebastian Bach (Skid Row) and Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters). The album is expected to be out next year.

Two men attending Gregg Allman's show last Wednesday at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville got into a fight with the result being one sustaining a knife wound to the face and the other being arrested by authorities.
Not that this will be any big surprise, but Pierce Munitions, makers of precision ammunition, will be putting out a new line of hunting bullets under Ted Nugent's name.

The 100 Club in London has failed in its attempt to get historical protection. English Heritage, the organization that make recommendations on landmarks backed the plan, noting it was the oldest active club in London, but the British government rejected the bid.
A government spokesperson told the Sunday Telegram "There's no denying the club's place in British pop music history, but in the end it's only the stage and the signage that mark it out as being any different from any other basement club. I can't help but feel that giving the cradle of punk rock listed building status would not be quite in tune with that movement's driving spirit."

Drake enjoyed musical freedom

Advertisements

added: 9 Jan 2012 // by: newsdesk

Drake-enjoyed-musical-freedom Email this story Printable version

Drake had the 'greatest freedom' possible when making his latest album.

The Canadian rapper released Take Care late last year and it debuted at number one on the Billboard album chart.

He worked closely with his friend Noah '40' Shebib on the record, with Drake's record company happy to let the pair lay down tracks on their own. Engineer-and-producer 40 thinks that's why Take Care was such a hit.

'We get to do what we want: we don't have to clear it with the A&Rs or anybody. We are our own A&Rs," he told MTV News. "And that's the greatest freedom you can possibly have in this business.'

The two music stars had worked together before. 40 was involved with So Far Gone, the 2009 mix-tape which launched Drake's career. They also teamed up for his first record Thank Me Later, but neither had anything particular in mind when they started work on Take Care.

'I can't sit there and tell you that anybody made any conscious decisions to the extent of, 'Oh, we're gonna make this feel of an album,'' 40 explained. 'We really just make records and cut music until someone says, 'That's it: You can't make any more music; you gotta stop.''

Drake and 40 work well together and the producer prides himself on helping the rapper get his message across. Drake is adamant all his tunes must mean something to him and he likes to be involved in every aspect of album making, which 40 respects.

'What ends up happening a lot of times with our records is that, because I can do a lot of things in the studio, whether it be play instruments or produce or edit or run Pro Tools or edit vocals, whatever the case may be, I help him get out his ideas," the producer said. "I think that's the goal of any good producer, is to make sure the artist is delivering what they want.'

Pulp get cryptic on festival return

Pulp-get-cryptic-on-festival-return Email this story Printable version

After Pulp's hugely successful tour during 2011, many fans wondered if it would be the last time, but with the Coachella announcement it looks like the band is gearing up for a busy 2012.

A quick stop at their official website and you'll be greeted with a cryptic message:

'You think you get off that lightly? You think this is over? There are so many questions left unanswered: Can this feeling travel across the Atlantic? Can we make the desert bloom? Can we conquer our phobias? And ' most fundamentally: Why me? Why you? Why here? Why now? 2012: The year we get some answers?'

The message ends with '13 & 20 April 2012, Coachella, Indio, CA, USA'. The word 'Coachella' (presumably mistakenly) linked to the Spanish festival Primavera Sound's site.

On Twitter, the band said 'Do you think this is over?' It was their first post since September.

'See you again, in about fifteen years probably,' front man Jarvis Cocker jested to crowds around the world left hungry for more during their shows last year.

I'd like to add one more question to the fundamental list of questions offered above: Where else will Pulp be playing in 2012 and what do I have to sell to be in the audience for one of those shows?'
